SMS Opt-In Process
TurnipCare provides appointment-scheduling software to healthcare practices. Practices use TurnipCare to send appointment-related text messages (scheduling, confirmations, reminders, rescheduling) to patients who have opted in. No protected health information (PHI), diagnoses, or test results are sent via SMS.
How patients opt in
- Written consent at registration. Each participating practice's registration paperwork includes the patient's agreement to receive appointment reminders and scheduling texts.
- The patient provides a cell number. Only patients who do — under that signed consent — receive messages.
- Opting out is always available. Reply STOP to any message. Declining or withdrawing never affects care or scheduling.
The practice's registration paperwork discloses what messages the patient will receive, that message and data rates may apply, and how often messages are sent. The signed consent record stays on file with the practice for the duration of the care relationship, and each practice makes its registration forms available to its patients directly — in person and on its own website.
